The PTA membership has spoken! Before the mid-winter break the PTA Board sent home a survey and ballot. This was the first time an absentee vote was taken.
301 ballots were sent out and 132 were returned. This response is much greater than what we typically get at a General Membership Meeting, so watch for future votes to perhaps be handled this way. A sum of $21,000 was to be allocated. Thanks to all who took the time to read over the issues and give us your feedback.
In response to the survey, we received an overwhelming positive response (92%) to continuing to use PTA fund-raising dollars as back-up funding in addition to the fee per student needed for the 4th & 5th Grade Wedgwood Instrumental Music (WIM) Program for the 2007-2008 school year. The same is true for allowing PTA fundraising dollars to be spent to fund scholarships to non-free & reduced lunch WIM students requesting aid.
As for the election results, the votes were cast in this order:
- First - replacing the school’s laminator
- Second - provide sixteen new classroom screens to compliment the laptop/ELMO’s
- Third - hire a part-time Library Assistant ($14,000) [to be hired as soon as possible, provided a suitable candidate is available. If a candidate is unavailable this money will come up for a re-vote.]
- Fourth – provide $1,300, in addition to the $4,800 being provided by the Principal, for the Library
- And fifth – provide funds for new lobby furniture to update our entrance and make it more welcoming.
Thanks again for all of your votes and thoughtful responses. We’ve made great progress with this ballot!
