Birthday Books

September 26th, 2007 by Rachael Weissman

Our wonderful Librarian Ms. Miller has a great idea! Wedgwood now has ”Birthday Books”, to commemerate your child’s (or grandchild’s, friend’s or relative’s) birthday. The idea is to purchase a book for less than cost, which will enhance the libraries collection, support the school curriculum and increase reading at Wedgwood.

Here’s how it works:

  • A week or so before the birthday email Ms. Miller (ajmiller@seattleschools.org), call, or stop by the library to choose a book you wish to purchase from a list made to specifically enhance our collection. All of the books on this list are $16.00, this is lower than the average cost to a hard cover book in the library.
  • Summer birthdays can be celebrated in September or try their half birthday!
  • The book will have a commemerative label put in it with the child’s name, birthdate, and grade level.
  • You student will have the priviledge of being the first person to check out their book! Books usually arrive within two week but delays can happen, so as close to their birthday as possible their name will be read over the loud speaker to come to the library to check out their book!

Please remember this is a strictly voluntary program so do not feel obligated to participate. This is supposed to be a fun moment for your student and a way to make Wedgwood School a place where reading is celebrated!
