New After School Opportunity

February 27th, 2008 by Laura Lindhe

The PTA has the opportunity to offer a unique After School Program this spring: Lego Digital Animation. The class would be taught by Lukas Allenbaugh, a former public school teacher with a degree in science and 14 years experience teaching art. Mr. Allenbaugh uses these talents, and a whole lot of Legos, to teach students to create dynamic movie shorts with the process of stop-motion animation.

Students work in teams each session to build “sets”, and at the end of the program kids can go home with a DVD of their creations. Children will practice skills of physics, math and language arts each time they come to class. For a closer look at Lego digital animation, go to Mr. Allenbaugh’s website. If offered, this class would last approximately 8 weeks in the spring, and cost $20/class/student, plus an additional $5 for a DVD.

The PTA is curious to know if there is enough interest to hold a class like this in the spring — we know that there is much competition for after school hours this time of year with sports practices, etc. If your family would be interested in signing up for this class, please email gwenmalone at hotmail dot com. Let me know your child’s grade and gender so we can get a feel for the class make-up. Please note, by emailing your interest, you are not signing up for the class.
