The Northeast Coalition to Prevent Underage Drinking Presents a Town Hall Meeting

March 13th, 2008 by Laura Lindhe

March 25th 7 pm to 8:30 pm, Eckstein Middle School Auditorium

Did you know that underage drinking rates in northeast Seattle are higher than the state average? Youths who use alcohol damage their brains, scoring lower on vocabulary, general information, and memory recall tests. The longer youths put off having their first drink, the more time the brain has to develop during this important time of growth.

On March 25th, please join parents and other community members who are concerned about underage drinking for a Town Hall Meeting. The program features a panel discussion about how alcohol affects adolescents’ brains and development and the impact of underage drinking on individuals and the community. As part of a national effort to help communities stop underage drinking, Town Hall meetings such as this are being held across America during the last week of March.

Who else will be there? Parents, youth educators, prevention professionals, health care providers, law enforcement, and business owners. Organizations such as the University YMCA and Children’s Hospital will have representatives and information available.

Take this opportunity to learn how you can get involved to help prevent underage drinking. Parents of younger children can benefit by making connections with other parents and by learning about reinforcing your values and expectations in the coming years.
