The following is a list of the current committee chairs and a description of their work. This list includes school sponsored volunteer opportunities. Questions regarding school-volunteer activities coordinated by the school including tutoring, crossing guard helpers, and lunchroom helpers should be directed to the school office: 252-5670.

Art Docent
Art Docent volunteers (usually 1-2 per classroom) present a new art print each month (October-May) and discuss it with the students. Themes are emphasized through a hands-on art project. Training is provided. Docents spend 1-2 hours per month preparing for their lessons and 1-2 hours in the classroom each month, as determined by the teacher.

Book Fair
This fantastic fundraiser takes place in the fall and spring. People are needed to cashier, set-up and catalog and price used books.

Carnival
Help organize our school’s annual carnival. Planning takes place from January to March, the carnival is held on a Saturday or Sunday in the early spring. The chair usually works with a core group of about seven people to plan food, games, prizes, volunteers, PR, set-up and clean up.

Chess Club
Help organize Chess Club chaperones and events. All parents of students who participate in Chess Club will need to volunteer once or twice throughout the year.

Comfort Kit Committee
This committee prepares disaster kits for students and staff.

Crossing Guard Helper
Do you have an extra 15 minutes before or after school? Wedgwood’s crossing guards need adult help at our busy intersection.

Enrichment Committee
The enrichment committee coordinates three family fun nights: Math Night, Science Fair and Geography Night.

Family Dances
Provide assistance in organizing, set-up, serving snacks and beverages or selling tickets at our fall and spring dances.

F.U.N. Science Instructor (Third Grade Only)
Instruct third grade students in this exciting, hands-on urban nature program. This requires a weekly commitment for four weeks in the fall and the spring, as well as a half-day training session October 2nd.

Gift Wrap Sale
Help our Gift Wrap Sale Coordinator in sending packets and reminder notices home, going through orders, delivering orders to the classrooms and dealing with corrections. It’s going on now and will be all wrapped up by Thanksgiving so sign up quickly! Time needed is mostly after school and on weekends.

Grant Writing
We are looking for a few people to help write grants for support of the following types of activities: art, technology, library books, etc. The money is out there. We just need to find a way to bring some of it to Wedgwood!

Health Screener
Volunteers are needed to help the nurse with health screenings and blood drives.

I-Dent-A-Kid Program
This program takes place every January. Identification cards are made for those children who choose to participate.

Legislation and Advocacy
Serve as part of a phone team – calling people and encouraging them to get out and vote! May also be called on to get candidate or issue information out to our school community.

Library Volunteer
Parent volunteers help out in the library in order to allow our librarian to spend more time working with students. We need 6-8 library volunteers to come in on a regular schedule (usually 1-2 hours per week) to help with re-shelving books and checking out books for students. We also need parents willing to come in on an as needed basis to help with entering new books into the catalog, repairing damaged books and other tasks.

Lost and Found
Lost and Found items are put out monthly, and if not claimed, sent to charitable organizations.

Lunchroom Helper
Help serve meals, monitor student behavior and assist kindergarteners during lunch periods.

Newsletter Production Team
The PTA newsletter, The Wedgwood Weekly, is distributed every Wednesday and keeps us all informed of dates and events happening at our school. Volunteers are needed to copy and distribute the newsletter once a week. We could also use help with teachers and staff profiles and student reports.

Passport Club
Help is needed for half a day, once a month quizzing students in this geography based program.

Playground Improvement Project (PIP) Steering Committee
This committee is in charge of the playground improvement and needs several new members to keep the project going. Visit the Playground Improvement Project page for the latest updates about this project.

Playground Monitor
Volunteers are needed to help supervise on the playground before school, during recess and at lunchtime.

Pledge Drive
This is Wedgwood’s largest source of income. Tasks include writing text for brochures and letters, producing graphic art, advertising, photocopying, stuffing letters, mailings and other jobs. The planning phase is going on now, and the pledge drive runs from October-December. Your help is really needed here!

Pumpkin Carving
Help students and parents get creative at this popular family night. Volunteers are needed to ensure safety and serve snacks. Pumpkin Carving will be held October 28th.

This committee helps keep our school gardens looking fresh.

Social/Hospitality Committee
Responsibilities vary – from making and serving cookies or other goodies for events throughout the year to serving as a host/greeter at coffee hours and general membership meetings on a quarterly basis. Provide as little or as much time as you can spare! We can use as many volunteers as possible for this committee!!

Staff Appreciation
Staff appreciation events happen throughout the year, with Staff Appreciation week in May. Participation can include coordination and involvement in events or simply contributing items for staff luncheons.

Student Banking Committee
3 volunteers are needed to collect student’s deposits. The time frame is weekly, October-June (8:45-10am).

This team is working to maintain and upgrade all the computers in our building, as well as helping our students to become more computer savvy.

Wedgwood Instrumental Music (WIM) Program
As the school district has been forced to cut funding for instrumental music, WIM has stepped in. This group raises money to help keep music in our students lives.
